Frequently asked questions

Do you do teeth whitening treatments?
Yes. We do bleaching treatments utilizing 2 different systems. One system is a take home system where we provide the materials needed and work with you to see that you get a good result. This system is more cost effective. The other system is an in-office system called Opalescence Boost. The whole process takes just a little over 1 hour for whiter teeth.

Do you accept referrals and new patients?
We are happy to accept referrals from other dental offices as well as recommendations by our patients to their family and friends. Your referrals truly are our best compliments! New patients are always welcome.

Should I take my child to a pediatric dentist or a general practice like Dublin Dental Associates?
Pediatric dentists provide a good service for children and they are good choice. However, most children can be successfully treated in general practice like ours. We recognize children who can benefit more from a specialist and we promptly refer them where they can receive the best care.

I was told that I should get sealants on my child’s teeth. What are they and are they really necessary?
Sealants for children are recommended for permanent teeth. By placing a think clear application of acrylic bonding to the biting surfaces of a tooth, decay can be prevented. Sealants are recommended for permanent teeth to resist decay (cavities). Sealants are very affordable and they can help preserve your child’s teeth and prevent decay, thus preventing future problems. They are an excellent investment in your child’s dental health.

When should I bring my child in for their first dental visit?
Generally, children should see us for their first visit when they become 3 years old or sooner if you suspect that there may be a problem.

What can I expect at my first dental appointment?
Your initial visit will consist of a complete oral evaluation by the dentist along with a complete series of x-rays that are necessary for diagnostic purposes. This time with the dentist opens a line of dialogue for you to express what your needs and wants are for your smile, and allows us to plan how we can help you achieve those goals.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?
Bleeding gums are a concern. Bleeding gums is a disease known as gingivitis. This is a progressive disease and will turn into the irreversible gum disease known as periodontitis. Left untreated, gum disease can cause loose teeth, inflamed gums, and, eventually, tooth loss. Regular cleanings and maintenance are important steps in stopping gingivitis and gum disease. Your dentist and hygienist are a key part of limiting this disease from progressing.

How do I know when it’s time to come in for a checkup?
Typically, dental recall appointments (checkups) should be scheduled every 6 months. During this visit, a cleaning will be performed along with a dental exam and x-rays. This cleaning, exam, and x-ray appointment will ensure that problems are prevented before they become larger issues. Occasionally, a patient may be scheduled on a more frequent recall schedule, such as every 3 months. This ensures that oral health is maintained and that a patient reaches a consistent level of good oral health. Our office will be happy to schedule an appointment for your cleaning and we will send you appointment reminder cards via mail and email to help you stay on your regular recall interval.

Is it really possible to keep my teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime?
The answer is yes! Routine preventive dental care in combination with excellent oral hygiene can keep you teeth healthy for a life. Visit your dentist as necessary and care for your teeth and gums as recommended.

Will you file my insurance for me?
Yes, as a courtesy to our patients, our office will assist you with the filing of your dental insurance claims. It is important that you understand your dental insurance coverage and limitations. We ask that you read through your policy and discuss the benefits with your insurance carrier so that you may understand your responsibilities. We are a preferred provider with Delta Dental Premier. Please bring a copy of your insurance card as well as pertinent demographic information to you appointment.
