Composite Fillings

When a tooth is damaged by decay, crack or fractures a filling is used to repair the damage. There are several materials available to us, and each has its advantages. Composite or tooth colored fillings are often recommended because we can match the filling to the color of your teeth. Nearly invisible, composite fillings look natural and are very durable. We may recommend a different filling material and will always discuss the options available to you. Replacing silver amalgam fillings or placing a new filling can be done in one appointment. Your dentist will numb the tooth then remove the old filling and/or any decay. The composite filling will be placed, shaped and polished, completely restoring your tooth. You may experience sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days but that is normal and will subside. Good daily oral hygiene habits, a healthy diet and regular dental checkups will help extend the life of your fillings and give you a healthy smile for a lifetime!
