During your regular checkup you will receive a thorough and comprehensive dental exam by your dentist and hygienist that includes:
- Dental Cleaning – removal of tartar that forms above and below the gum line, removal of plaque which can inflame your gums and teeth polishing to remove stains that may remain. - Gum Evaluation – check gums and bone surrounding teeth for any signs of periodontal disease. - Tooth Decay – check all surfaces for signs of decay. - Exam Existing Restorations – check all fillings and crowns to ensure they are stable and still effective. - Diagnostic x-rays – exam radiographs for any signs of decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss. X-rays are also very helpful in determining tooth and root positions. - Oral Cancer Screening – check face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, gums and tissue for any signs of oral cancer. Your dentist may recommend additional treatments or diagnostic evaluation and your hygienist may offer suggestions to improve personal daily oral hygiene care.
