Dentures And Partials

Replacing missing teeth resemble your natural teeth can be accomplished with partial or complete dentures. Dentures are removable dental appliances made to resemble your natural teeth and will enhance your smile. A partial denture is used to fit the space left by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from shifting. The partial built around remaining natural teeth, anchoring to those teeth with metal “hooks” that keep the partial denture in place. Complete dentures replace all the teeth on either the upper or lower jaw, or both. Patients requiring complete dentures will receive a thorough examination of gums and the supporting bone structure in your mouth to determine the best treatment plan. In some cases oral surgery may be necessary to correct bony ridges in the mouth that can interfere with denture stability. An impression of the gums is made to ensure that the dentures fit properly.

Patients undergoing tooth extraction will be fitted for an immediate denture that enables proper healing of the extraction sites and gives the patient an esthetic replacement for natural teeth. During the healing process, which lasts 6 to 12 months, gums will naturally shrink. We will make adjustments to the immediate dentures as needed to ensure proper fit and comfort. When the healing process is complete, or if no additional extractions are required, patients are fitted with complete dentures. Patients may experience soreness, may find it difficult to chew properly and may have difficulty speaking however these subside as your muscles and tissues adjust. You will be given care instructions which include removing the dental appliance at night to allow saliva to flow, helping to maintain a healthy mouth.
